    3. Dear Ed, Although my Budge ancestors came from the Orkneys, I believe I read something somewhere that stated that the earliest reference to a Budge in Scotland was a Magnus Budge who had some position (magistrate?) in Caithness in the 1400s. Sorry I can't be more specific. The book I read it in contained Scottish surnames and their earliest occurrences, and the person who owned the book had a booth at a mall. He was there for a short time only. His business involved printing out family coat-of-arms, crests, etc. I saw him at the same spot earlier this year, so I assume that I might be able to get a name and the next time he's slated to return from the mall management. Hope this helps, Lori ---------- > From: Ed Brumby <EdBrumby@71stfraserregt.freeserve.co.uk> > To: ORKNEY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ORKNEY] Budge > Date: Thursday, August 10, 2000 11:47 AM > > Does the name Budge originate in the Orkneys? > I am interested in Robert and Alexander Budge, born around 1750, and > enlisted in the 71st Fraser Regiment > Ed in Elgin > > > > ==== ORKNEY Mailing List ==== > >>>>TIP: When replying to a message, please change the subject line of the message if you've changed the subject - this will improve our list archive and assist future researchers.<<<<
