Hello everyone, I am new to this list. My name is Kaye Soulsby and I live in Melbourne Australia. I and am bedridden with a long illness and found I finally have the time to follow up a long held interest in genealogy. I am primarily interested in the Peace but also links with Mathieson and Ferguson family of Orkney (especially Greenock and Kirkfell areas). My ggg g/father James Peace occ.Shipwright b.1786 d.12/11/1864. He married Margaret Mathieson but I have no further information of her. I suspect that their son Robert Peace had siblings, but have no details other than apparently one sister became a doctor. My gg g/father was Robert Peace b.8/1/1822 West Parish of Greenock, d. 19/07/1908 Auckland New Zealand. He married Margaret Sharp Ferguson (poet and music teacher) on 12/11/1845, b. unknown d. 12/4/1897 Auckland New Zealand. Margaret Sharp Ferguson was daughter of John Ferguson (Shipbuilder) and Margaret Sharp -- no further details. Daughter Margaret was disinherited when she married Robert Peace as he was considered beneath her in status. They had a son Andrew Peace b.12/12/1846 Greenock then left Greenock in 1847 and sailed to St John's, Newfoundland. The following surviving children were born in Newfoundland: James, Robert, John, Alexander, Margaret, Sarah, and Colin. They lived for a time in the Governor's cottage. Along with a few other families they chartered the vessel "Clara" and sailed to New Zealand in 1861 they had 1 more child Neale in Auckland NZ. I have a copy of the journal made whilst on board. I am interested in any details of the abovementioned. So far I have checked the Scottish BDM on-line which gave marriage details of Robert and Margaret S. Ferguson -- but was unable to find any further details. I would be very grateful for any assistance or suggested strategies (although my illness limits me to on-line resources only).
