I have finally been able to confirm that my grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Walter, was born March 1875 in Kirkwall. Her parents were: James J. Walter of Stenness and her mother was Betsy Anderson Robertson of Harray. At the time of the 1881 Census, the family lived on Victoria Street. There were 5 children: James R (9), George McB. (7), Elizabeth Jane (6), Maggie Ann (4), Edith Stewart (3). If anyone has links to this family, or can help me trace further back, I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.
