I cannot find any James Thomson b. 1847 in Orkney. I have two James Thomsons, one b. 1842 son of John Thomson and Margaret Annal born in South Ronaldsay. The other born in 1846, the son of Edward Thomson and Elizabeth Banks also born in South Ronaldsay. Hope this helps.
