Hi, One of my ggrandmothers was Marjory Mowett, she lived in Cobh Co. Cork Ireland. She married my ggrandfather William Ahern, approx. l854. The Mowett family owned tea rooms and a childrens toy/sweet shop in Cobh. I've been told that a gggfather (I'm not sure how many g's there should be!), a "Captain Mowett came from the Orkney's and settled in Cobh." I have no date on when he arrived. Griffith's Valuations does show a Magnus Mowatt living at Cotteral's Row in Cobh approx l850. I don't have a clue as to how to trace this Mowett/Mowatt family line back to the Orkney's.
