Hi Geoffrey, Do you know which island or parish in Orkney your Mowat's are from? In Walt Cursiter's transcription of the IGI the only reference I can find to any of your mentioned Mowat's is a christening of a daughter Janet to Wm Mowatt and Janet Allan on 9 Oct 1816 in the Parish of Holm and Paplay.
