Hello John, My Garriochs originated in Canada with the arrival of William b. Aug 15, 1786 @ St. Ola, near Kirkwall. He was the son of Magnus Garrioch & Margaret Millar b. 1746 & 1759 respectively. William came to Canada with the Hudsons Bay Company and as far as I can tell, most of the Garriochs in this country who trace themselves back to Manitoba, are his descendants. I have browsed the Cursiter site but unfortunately I can't find any siblings who may have remained on the Islands nor can I find a line back from either of his parents. It is impossible for me to say whether there is a connection or not but I would welcome any advice you might have to offer about researching further on the Orkneys. Thanks for getting in touch, Karen -----Original Message----- From: JOHN KELDAY <JKELDAY@compuserve.com> To: ORKNEY-L@rootsweb.com <ORKNEY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, February 14, 1999 3:14 PM Subject: [ORKNEY-L] Surname Lookup >Message text written by INTERNET:ORKNEY-L@rootsweb.com >>Have been lurking for some time now but have not seen any information >regarding the surname GARRIOCH.
