    1. [ORKNEY-L] 1861 Census look up anyone? + Ontario help?
    2. Anne Rendall
    3. A while back I asked for help locating some ancestors whom I believed had emmigrated to Canada. Someone on the list was really helpful in identifying that person in the Ontario 1871 census and I really appreciate it - especially because I missed the spelling variation she used. Today I finally got around to confirming that this was indeed our ancestor so I'm very happy. There's just one or two mysteries left. I know now that the family didn't leave Orkney until after the 1861 census but I don't know where they were. I'm looking for Jeremiah Rendall who is sometimes listed as Jerome, and Rendall is sometimes spelled Rendal, Randell, Randel, Randal etc. An 1859 baptismal record shows that the family was at Lower Ellibister in Rendall Parish, but they have been looked for there already to no avail. In 1861 Jeremiah would have been 32 give or take, his wife Mary Stevenson Rendall was about two and a half years younger so she'd be listed as 29 or 30 - probably. They had one boy named Peter who would have been around two. Mary's father had a farm in Firth. Her brothers had farms in different parishes but I lost files on my computer and don't remember where they were. So if you have an 1861 Orkney census I'd really be greatful if you could look for Jeremiah, Mary and Peter Rendall. Another possibility is that Jermiah had to leave Mary temporarily, so Mary may have been alone with Peter somewhere. Her brothers were Stevensons, she had a sister who became a Hewison I believe - Ann Trail Hewison (?) and a sister named Stewart who married twice once to Sinclair Harcus - probably Westray, her second husband was John Seatter. Thanks if you can help - thanks for reading my rambling inquiry regardless :) Regards, Anne M. Rendall volunteer host Orkney GenWeb and Orkney-L http://rendall.net/orkney/
