He joined the 93rd Highlanders when he was 16. He was sent to the West Indies 2 years later and he came to Toronto Ont. Canada in 1938 where he bought his discharge. I am open to suggestions. Where can I get certificates for birth, marriage and death , in Kirkwall?? Alan in wet and snowy Ontario Canada: I am beginning to get the feeling that the 93rd Regiment is taking over my life! Suggest you mush on down to the LDS FHC nearest you and request film #0912263 which will contain his discharge and military records. That is, if you do not already have them! Unfortunately, today I was reading the films just before and just after this one! They are in alpha order and I did not request the "H's". Next, turn the Huskies toward the local library and get an inter-library loan (or whatever Canada does that is similar) and request HIGHLAND SOLDIER 1820-1920 by Diana Henderson ISBN 0859762173 John Donald, Publisher, Edinburgh. This is fantastic book for the flavor of the military regiments and seriously needs genealogical indexing. She has numerous footnotes. One chart shows that not many recruits came from Orkney!
