My g-grandfather was James Pottinger who married a Margaret Kelday in Kirkwall about 1884. His father was Peter Pottinger who was born in Westray. What I found particularly interesting in your message was the surname Miller also came up. ..... After my g-grandparents, James Pottinger and Margaret Kelday, were married they headed for Manitoba, Canada. In 1900 James Pottinger died leaving his widow with 6 children. A man she knew in Kirkwall, Peter Miller came to Canada to marry her. They settled in BC. So you see, there seems to be a connection with the Pottinger and Miller families in Kirkwall.
