Hi! I don't know what you've searched, but if you think your Mary Flett may have been in Manitoba prior to the North West Territories, you might wish to check out the 1870 census for all instances of Marys. I have an index to the census here and Fletts are listed on census pages 95, 97, (102), 167, 171, (171), (175), 177, 182, 187, 199, (200), 202, 211, 213, 216, 218, (300), 304, (344), 345, (345), (355), 359, and 367. Fleets are listed on pages 110, (113), 115, 123, (123), 132, 151, 154. (No Sangsters listed in the index.) The numbers in brackets indicate maiden names of wives, as the father's name for each person is also listed on the census return. Apparently the entire 1870 Manitoba census is on microfilm reel C-2170, and people in Canada should be able to obtain the reel on inter-library loan from the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa through a local participating library. If there is any chance that they may have been in Ontario, there is an index to the 1871 census on-line. There are 4 James Sangster's mentioned in the index, one age 25 in Brockville; one age 59 in Glengarry County, one age 57 in Huron County, and one aged 30 in Lambton County. (Addition information is available on the site) This index is heads of families and strays only - the microfilm reels would have to be consulted to see the complete information. Happy Hunting! Stephen
