Marcia, In answer to your question about the OPR entries. It is normal for the registers to list witnesses to a baptism. In most of the records I have there are two witnesses. About the term "Law" you mentioned, I would guess this is abbreviated from "lawful" and normally an OPR entry for a birth and baptism would say something like: "<chlid's name> lawful son (or daughter) of <father and mother's names> was born <date> and baptised <date> by <minister's name> witnesses <names>" Sometimes Godparents are mentioned.
