In my ever-faithful AA Great Britain Road Atlas 1976, which I purchased in 1977 when I was working in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (ah, those were the days - howay the lads!), and which I still regard as the very best road and regional directory I have ever seen (and why I value it as a reference book), there are 5 Braeheads listed - all in mainland Scotland, none in Orkney.
