My sister has a book entitled "Orkney from Old Photographs" by Gordon Wright (the first book). We have enjoyed it immensely, as we see what the area looked like, and 'felt' like around 1900 or so. My maternal Ggrandfather, William HALCROW was born in Kirkwall on Main Street, 1885, and left about 1907 for Canada, then the US. We have visited Orkney, but get much more of the idea of living then from this book. She has eMailed me saying that on p167, there is a group photo of an outing from Graemsay, circa 1908, and identifies 3 WILSONs in the photo. Isabella and John Henry WILSON are from Nether Newhouse. James WILSON is from Flaghill. Help me with locating these places. We are descendant from an Isabella WILSON who married William HALCRO in 1879 in Stromness. My Ggrandfather was one of their sons. He was a Police Constable in Stromness. I realize there are quite a few WILSONs in Orkney, but it is worth a shot to ask about Nether Newhouse, and Flaghill, as Graemsay is not far from Stromness at all.
