    3. Hello, The info that you provided will no doubt be of interest to someone but I was going to ask you for the reference in case there was other useful info [for me, at least] from this source. Finally, tho', I saw a reference near the end of your e-mail: TNA_Catalogue_Reference: BT 27/1146. For me it would have been helpful if I knew where this reference came from and what time period that it covered. However I did find the source and the following reference will help others: I now know it will not be of any use for me to trace my Leith ancestors who left S. Ronaldsay in the early 1870's. Thank you, William, for leading me to this reference from The National Archives that is cited online at: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=6&CATID=3172754&j=1 I wouldn't have known about the "Outwards passenger lists" otherwise! ======================================================== Piece details BT 27/766 BT Records of the Board of Trade and of successor and related bodies Division within BT Records of the Commercial, Companies, Labour, Railways and Statistics Departments BT 27 Board of Trade: Commercial and Statistical Department and successors: Outwards Passenger Lists Record Summary Scope and content: Outwards passenger lists Covering dates: c1890-1960 Availability: Open Document, Open Description, Open Immediately, 3 working days notice to produce Held by: The National Archives, Kew ========================================================= Roger Leith Cockerline Guelph, ON, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Sinclair" <sensiblegrandad@googlemail.com> To: <orkney@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 12, 2008 10:13 AM Subject: [ORKNEY] James M Sinclair St Margarets Hope > Hi All > > I found this information and thought it might be useful to someone. > > Count: 20108 > Official_Number: 148765 > Departure_Date: 1927-06-16 > Contract_Ticket_No: 0 > Title: > Passenger_Surname: Sinclair > Passenger_Name_s: James M > Date_of_Birth: 0000-00-00 > Organised_Group: Hudson's Bay Company > Travel_Agent: > Gender: Male > Marital_Status: > Name_of_Building: Strathrale? > Sub_Street_Number: > Sub_Street_Name: > House_Number: > Street_Name: Burray > Urban_District_or_Village: St Margaret's Hope > Town_City_or_Island: Orkney > County: Orkney > Type_of_Passenger: British > Class_of_Passage: First > Destination_Port: Montreal > Occupation: Apprentice Clerk > Age_Category: Male over 12 > Age: 20.000 > Country_of_Birth: Not stated > Origin_Country: Scotland > Destination_Country: Canada > Journey_Cancelled: 0 > Country_of_which_subject: Not stated > Port_of_Arrival_in_UK: > Steamship_Line_to_UK: > Notes: > > The ship details: > > Ships_Name: Bayrupert > Official_Number: 148765 > Steamship_Line: Hudson's Bay Company > Masters_Name: Thomas F. 1. [ORKNEY] Halcros of Orkney

    3. I have already made enquiries about the History of Halcros on the Caithness and Shetland Rootsweb Lists. I received information about a History of Halcros document written by Sandy Annal. I contacted the Orkney Family History Society but they could not trace this document. Can anyone on this list help? I was also enquiring about suggestions that Rattars from Caithness took over the Halcro lands in Orkney, in the 1400s, and also took the Halcro name. Does anyone have any knowledge of that claim? My Halcro(w)s are thought to have moved from Orkney to Shetland in the 1500s. Best wishes, Jim Halcrow
