Thanks Maryann, Your suggestion is one of three that I had identified as a possible birth or baptism for Margaret Shearer. The three being:- Margaret Shearer, George S/Isabella Donaldson 10.11.1798 Bower Margaret Shearer, William S/Christian Dunnet 15.10.1797 Dunnet Margaret Shirrer, Donald S/Margt Sinclair 29.09.1798 Canisbay. Are you able to explain why Donald Shirrer and Margaret Sinclair are the right parents, apart from the fact that the baptism took place in Canisbay? The only information that I have so far about the three Margarets suggests that Christian Dunnet was from Canisbay, and I have information that suggests her daughter Margaret was buried in Olrig, but cannot prove it. As yet I do not know anything about the other two. Surname on the extraction on the IGI is Shirrer. Maryann > Margaret Shearer married Thomas Kirkpatrick in 1817 in Canisbay, > Caithness. She died in Orphir in 1825. I think my reason for choosing this couple as her parents is that their two eldest children are named Donald and Margaret and were also born in Canisbay. I do know other researchers have them as her parents. Tracey Janney and Sandra Lincoln in Austrailia. I have found Sandra's work to be fairly accurate in any other information we have shared. Sandra's husband is actually one of my distant cousins. Her death year of 1825( which you know how?)coincides with the birth of her youngest son Thomas. This couple are in my database because Donald Shearer and Margaret Sinclair's granddaughter married my great-granduncle John W. Dunnet.
