    3. G'day everyone, Volume 5 (L-M) of "South African Genealogies" published in 1999 by the Genealogical Institute of South Africa has a reference to Benjamin Moodie (1789-1856), son of James Moodie and Elizabeth Dunbar arriving in South Africa in 1817 with the "Moodie Settlers". Benjamin's first wife was Marjory Malcolmson "of Walls, Orkney" who died in 1838 at Swellendam, Cape Province, South Africa. One of their grandsons, Thomas Moodie (1839-1894) lead the "Moodie trek" northwards and founded the settlement of Melsetter in Rhodesia (modern day Zimbabwe). Donald Moodie (1794-1861), brother of Benjamin, also migrated to South Africa and married at Grahamstown in 1824. I have two questions:- a) Does anyone on the list have any further details of the people included in the "Moodie settlers"? I'd be surprised if it didn't include more people from Orkney, in particular from Walls. and b) Can anyone provide further identifying information about "Marjory Malcolmson from Walls, Orkney"? I'm particularly interested in Marjory as I'm a descendent of Malcolmsons of Walls, but owing to the damage to the parish registers in the 1790's, I cannot identify her parents.
