Labourer 1579/3 Orkney Jean 29 Margaret 7 RELIANCE 1851 Captain H.B. Fell tried the system of great circle sailing on the passage out to this colony. On July 10th they reached the Brazil Coast, near Pernambuco Latitude 5, 40S / Longitude 34, 50W July 21st - Latitude 7, 48S / Longitude 33, 55W having nothing but light variable airs from the southward all the time off the coast. July 31st - Latitude 29, 43S / Longitude 29, W57 August 9th - Lat.45, 32S / Longitude 6, 24E crossed the meridian of Greenwich, August 14th - Latitude 51, 36S / Longitude 18, 21E being about the longitude of the CAPE OF GOOD HOPE August 21 - Latitude 53, 48S / Longitude 54, 48E August 28 - Latitude 52, 52S / Longitude 90, 7E September 5 - Latitude 49, 3S / Longitude 116, 30E September 11 noon - Latitude 53, 48S / Longitude 54, 48E Made Kangaroo Island about 7.15pm but owing to the strong N.W. wind, with a very high sea, had to stand to the southward all night September 12th - made Kangaroo Island at daybreak next morning.
