Charles - Haven't found any BEATTONs. Its not one of my own research names and unfortunately it isn't one likely to catch my eye. BROWNs and ROBINSONs aren't in my Tree [yet]. Lisa Conrad found the ANNAL signature on the birth record as her target area is South Ronaldshay. She noted it in a Post to the Orkney List and I realized it was on film at the local FHC only 8 minutes from my house and was able to ship it off to Dave since she knew precisely where I could find it, and the image was very readable. BEATTONs may have served as Informants on Registration papers but I'd have no way of finding out, nor would a hired Researcher unless they dove into the Stromness Registers and searched each entry one by one. If you happen to know of any Birth, Marriage or Death Registers for BEATTONs in the filmed years, I can look at particular entries if you send me a year, a name and I assume you're interested in Stromness. Only these years : 1855-1875 plus the 2 single years of 1881 and 1891. That's 23 years of films with signatures. Write back if you have enough detailled information to get me to an entry. Then I can send you an image. Its pretty much what I enjoy doing and I've told complete strangers that I dig up dead people.....well, they asked ! MEG [though once I got a keen reply, he said 'So do I....I'm a Sheriff from Delaware State']. ----------------------------- Charles Flawn wrote: > Hello Meg, following your offer to Dave Annal, have you come across any documents containing the signatures for Beatton, they were mainly in the Stromness area up to 1900.I have found them to be quite a small group, who intermarried with Brown and Robertson. > Any information would be of great interest.
