Catherine: Another good source, if you haven't already tried and don't mind pay for use, is the Scots Origins data base - you can order extracts from the Parish records (pre 1855) and government records (post-1855) if you do find what you want. It costs to view the data base and to order extracts, however. It's worth a look at least.
