Hi- It never dawned on me to look for long-ago relatives from Orkney in the Hudsons Bay Co archives http://www.gov.mb.ca:80/chc/archives/hbca/biographical/index.html because my THOMAS THOMSON and ELIZABETH BURGAR emigrated to Nova Scotia ca 1810 and we have no family tradition of links with the HBC- however, some of Thomas' sibling- notably bro JOHN THOMSON of Papa Westray and later Kirkwall- may have had offspring work for the HBC- wondering if anyone can help with parents/siblings of : JOHN A THOMSON- from South Ronaldsay, started w/ HBC 1850 died in western Canada. JOHN C THOMSON from South Ronaldsay, joined HBC 1867 JOHN THOMSON from S. Ronaldsay, joined HBC 1863 died 1864. JOHN D THOMSON from S Ronaldsay, joined HBC 1876. Also- Where is Milster House in Orkney ? HBC records have a JAMES THOMSON who started work with HBC in 1770, was stranded on ice floe and died 1772. Thanks, Dutch Thompson in PEI Canada
Dutch, Just speculating here, but could Milster House be Melsetter House?
