Roland Sinclair's "Orcadian Families", not the most reliable of sources, has under "Stewart of Burray": William Stewart of Mains, fl.1637 (and evidently 1654), 2nd son of Alexander Stewart 5th of Garlies and Christian, dau. of Sir William Douglas of Drumlanrig, married Barbara, dau. and heir of James Stewart of Burray, son of Henry Stewart of Buchlivie and Janet McLeod (died a.1625). Their children included: - James Stewart, yr of Mains, who was tutor to bairns of Rev.Walter Stewart of Masseter, whom I identifed as the writer of the texts reproduced in my book "Blaeu's Orkneys and Schetland"; - Henry, -1645, fought under Montrose; - William of Mains, fl. 1667; adjutant to Montrose at Philipaugh; and - Sir Archibald Stewart of Burray, who succeeded; supported Montrose, thrice captured, thrice escaped; created baronet 1687, died 1689. Married 1st Isobel Murray, 2nd servantrix Katherine Rowsay. Son by 1st: - Sir Archibald , -1704, married Margaret Stewart. Son: - Sir James Stewart of Burray, 3rd Baronet, who murdererd Capt. Moodie of Melsetter in Broad St. in 1725, and died in gao; in Southwark while awaiting trial as a Jocobite.
