John on the 1821 Census Lisa Conrad has transcribed the 1821 Census with the following information: John was a farmer living at 186 Kirkhouse with his wife Ann Guthrie and his family. They had 4 sons that are known of, John aged 31 a fisherman, who later married Barbara Cromarty, William aged 20 a carpenter, whom I can find no trace of after this date. Peter aged 29 , also a carpenter later married Sinclair Anderson and James aged 17, who later married Isabella Anderson, who was the sister of Sinclair Anderson. They also had a daughter Ann living with them at this time, whom I can find no trace of after 1841. ---------------------------------------------------- John on 1841 Census Name: Jno (John) Sinclair Age: 75 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1766 Gender: Male Where born: Orkney and Shetland, Scotland Civil Parish: South Ronaldsay St Peters County: Orkney and Shetland Address: Kirkhouse Occupation: Ind Household Members: Name Age Catharine Brown 45 W Brown 10 Ann Sinclair 75 Ann Sinclair 40 Jno Sinclair 75 Willie Sinclair 2008/12/13 Norman Tulloch <norman@nwtulloch.vispa.com>: > I assume it's this Kirkhouse that you're referring to, Willie: > > http://tinyurl.com/69op5a > > In "The Place-Names of South Ronaldsay & Burray", Gregor Lamb says of > it, "Paplay 1841; occupied; private house adjacent to St Peter's Kirk." > > St Peter's Kirk is marked with a cross on the map.
