Margaret Harcus' death register entry states:- Widow of William Sutherland, Farmer, Newbreck, St. Andrews. 29th December 1927 aged 76 years. Senile Decay Father's name not shown. Mother's name Isabella Budge, Stocking Knitter, Deceased. At the time of their marriage William Sutherland was a Farm Servant at Moorhouse, Holm, but after the marriage at some time, he took over the farm of Newbrake/Newbreck from his father-in-law. The marriage actually took place at Newbreck. On the 1901 census Isabella Budge, aged 80, is shown as living at Newbreck with William Sutherland and Margaret Harcus and is listed as William's mother-in-law. It never fails to amaze me that there were nine people living in that house which only had two rooms! I'm off to have a look at the death entry for 1913 - she could be mine!
