Now I am looking for it, the term seems to crop up naturally. I am just a little surprised that I do not recall finding references to the election, appointment, remuneration or resignation of a Beadle in the session minutes I have read for Kirkwall, Sanday, or Caithness. I am sure that is correct, they were used to lead the Congregational singing as no musical instruments were allowed.
