Help! I am working on a paper about Sir John Spencer Login and his family and on those associated with him. I have made contact with descendants of Login's wider family in Australia and Canada and also with descendants of the Broadfoot family in Australia. John Spence (or SPencer) Login, the eldest son of John Login, merchant, vintner, ship master, ship owner and ship agent, and, from 1801 to 1825, a local councillor in the Burgh of Stromness, and his wife Margaret Moar Spence, born *circa* 1788 and died in 1840, daughter of Captain John Spence of Stromness who 'commanded a merchantman trading to the West Indies from London'. John Login, the elder, baptized on 20th January 1761, and died in 1829, was the fourth son of Michall or Mitchell Login. I have standardized the surname as Login, but appears in records variously as Login, Logan, Loggan, Logen, Loggen. The Broadfoots are descendants of Rev. William Broadfoot, minister of the Seccession Church in Kirkwall in the early 1800s. I would be pleased to hear from anyone with links to, or information on, either family. Regards Bruce Gorie
Bruce, There are two Login biographies in the "Orkney Roots" section of BuyOrkney: http://www.buyorkney.com/roots/biographies/sir_john_login/ http://www.buyorkney.com/roots/biographies/rear-admiral_spencer_login/ You'll probably be familiar with these people anyway, though, and no doubt you'll also be familiar with Login's Well in Stromness: http://www.orkneycommunities.co.uk/imagelibrary/picture/number910.asp Norman T.
