Dear List, I'm new to this list, thanks to a recent discovery that my husband's great-grandfather was born in Orkney (exact location unknown, alas!). I would be very pleased to hear from anyone with links to or information about Alick CUMMING, born about 1840, somewhere in Orkney. His father, James, was a sailor or tailor and died before Alick's marriage in Fulham, London in 1884. Alick's occupation was railway inspector. Just as a matter of interest, I stumbled upon a Margaret CUMMING on the 1901 census for Forest Gate, West Ham, widow, aged 51, living on own means, born Orkney (though obviously I don't know her maiden name). Her son, Finlay H Cumming, aged 19, merchant's clerk, born Scotland, is with her. Perhaps someone is looking for them? Deborah
