However, it may be worth trying the email addresses I gave you; it won't cost anything. I don't even know what a threadworks is. Does it produce thread, or go in for some sort of weaving? While there have undoubtedly been knitting and some tweed production in Orkney, I don't think it was ever a great centre for the textile industry, whereas Glasgow and other places in the west of Scotland were important in that respect. Remember the Paisley patterns, for example? Firms like Coates were also very important in thread production. Regards, Norman Tulloch
