    1. [ORKNEY] Frank Morgan (corrected)
    2. Glenn Morgan
    3. [Oops. My previous note had Donald Morgan's name wrong. Please ignore it. Thanks, and Sorry.] According to my grandfather, his father, Frank (or Francis) Morgan, was from the Orkneys. Unfortunately, that is all I have to go on besides the fact that some time before 1904, the family moved to Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. I know this because in 1904, Frank married Florence Herridge there. The 1881 British Isles census lists only two Morgan families living in the Orkneys, Donald Morgan (from Thurso) and Alexander McLeod Morgan (probably Donald's son). Either Frank was not yet born, or my grandfather was mistaken (I hope not). Does anyone recognize Frank Morgan from their research? And could someone with access to the 1891 census check to see if Frank is listed, possibly as Alexander's son (I hope so)?

    3. Hi Dan, I hope this will help with the second part of your query. The 1871 census for Ontario is online at <http://www.archives.ca/exec/naweb.dll?fs&020108&e&top&0>. However there was no Malcolm Grant when I checked. A source for the 1861 census index would be the publications of the Kent County Genealogical Society at <http://www.angelfire.com/on/kentogs/> There is a Malcolm Grant in Donald Whyte's A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants before Confederation. He gives the emigration date to Kent as 1849. You might have a better chance with the 1851 census. 3. Hi David, I notice that you are researching the family name Heddle. Interestingly enough, that is my wife's name and her family is from somewhere over that way. I have been searching my side of the family (Grant/Groat) but have had in the back of my mind to get to her side eventually. Her mother did some research on the Heddle line, though i know not how much. She is no longer living but I think my wife has the paperwork that she did. I say paperwork because it was done in the dark days before computers. If you would like I will take a look and share what she has. Let me know. (I am sending this email from my office email but can also be reached at grantda@ucinet.com ). dan grant

    3. Unless you're in Kirkwall, Stromness or St Margaret's Hope, there are no "street addresses". The place names refer to "townlands" and crofts, not towns. There are a number of sites online that allow you to view Ordnance Survey maps of the UK. 3. I believe that geologically, South Walls is an island. The connection to North Walls on the island of Hoy is essentially a sand-bar, which used to be covered at high tide, but has now been improved by man and had a road constructed on it. In the same way, the Brough of Birsay is an island to which you can walk at low tide. 3. Marilyn, Wow! Fifth cousins? Neat! Eliza Peebles Allan was born 14 June 1833 (1901 census of Canada) and christened 28 July 1833. (Information at the LDS Library had her date of birth as 14 June 1830 and place of birth as Kirkwall, O.I., Scotland.) She married John Cogle Budge on 10 Dec. 1857. Their children were: Thomas Budge, born 13 September 1858 in Scotland, died 26 April 1941 in Canada; John George Budge, born 19 April 1860 in Scotland; Eliza Harriot Budge, born 2 March 1862 (1863 on 1901 census of Canada) in Scotland; William Halcro Allan Budge, born 15 March 1864 in Scotland; Louisa Budge, born 15 September 1866 (5 September on 1901 census, 25 September from my aunt's info) in Scotland; and James B. Budge, born 10 October 1869 in Scotland. John Cogle Budge left South Ronaldsay in 1869 and sailed for Canada. Eliza and her six children re-joined him in 1871. In Canada they had several more children: Nathaniel Budge, born 27 January 1873 (1874 on 1901 census of Canada); Albert E. Budge, born 28 July 1874 (1875 on 1901 census of Canada); Alfred David, born 28 July 1874 (not on 1901 census because he died at a young age); and Helen Budge (Ellen Isabella on 1901 census of Canada), born 8 February 1876 John Cogle Budge was born 12 July 1828 in Scotland and died in 1904 at the age of 76. Eliza died in 1929 at the age of 96 or 99, depending on what record you base her age. Both are buried at Walford, Ontario, Canada. Marilyn, I guess I'll stop there with my info. I don't want to inundate the list with Budge 'stuff'. However, if anyone has info that contradicts or verifies my info, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Kind regards, Lori Beckerton North Bay, ON, Canada > Allan. I had the Isabella and Barbara Allan as the only children of Isabella > and Edward Allan. Any further information appreciated.
