Yes, I have some information., all yet to be verified! I believe there were two brothers, James RENDALL c about 5 Mar 1837, and John Yorston RENDALL c about 16 Aug 1840. However the parents were James MAINLAND & Ann RENDALL. They were married at Evie & Rendall 14 June 1833. Standardised spelling is a modern (and passing ?) fad. I one generation of Stewarts spelt Stewart Stuart Steward Stuard Stwart You've got be very opened minded about spelling of names. I know of an Emma Jane who migrated from Somerset to New South Wales and married as Imogen. The phonetics are nearly the same but the spelling is way out. The French Canadian name Reneau from Quebec shows up on Massachusetts records as Raynoe, Noe, Noi, or Know ! Hello. Does anyone know if there is or was a church in Rossmire (Rossmyre), Firth? I have information that my great-grandparents were married in 1886 in "Rossmire, Firth, Orkney". I've been unable to trace the source of this information (done by a third party some time ago) and don't know if my great-grandparents were married there, or lived there, or what. (Actually, Rossmyre being between Kirkwall and Finstown, I'm not even sure that it is in the parish of Firth.) Thanks you for any ideas you may have. Linda
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried the website but was unable to access.Any suggestions?(Re : reply to information on surname WORKE. ----- Original Message ----- From: Monte Engelson <hme@island.net> To: <ORKNEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 25, 1999 4:06 PM Subject: Re: [ORKNEY] Surname Worke > >Any information on the Surname Worke? > > Work and Worke some with this name migrated to British Columbia on the Ship > Tory in the year 1850. > > try my website for more information > > My ancestor on this voyage was one Christopher Finlay > > http://www.island.net/~hme/contents/html > > hope this can be of help > > Monte > > >

I had great success on the List with my daughter in law's father's family in Orkney. Now I'll try her mother's! In the 1881 census I found two brothers( I think!) James Kemp, Farmer, 28, living with his wife Mary and family at Stenso, Shapinsay and Robert Kemp,32 with his wife Margaret and family at Kirkton, Shapinsay. Robert's mother was with him, Jane Kemp. All three were born at Kincardine o'Neil, Aberdeen Kay

Do you have information on Ann Rendall's siblings? My great grandfather, James Yorston Rendall, was born at Evie and Rendall in the 1850's to William Rendall and Ann Irving. Could there be a connection?
