Is there anyone on the List that would want to search surname BUDGE for me, and email me privately with results? I dislike having to enable Cookies just to access this site, and wonder if someone doesn't mind doing this in my stead... Clouston frequently used this expression to indicate the couple were married without banns having first been proclaimed. How frequently other ministers used it I don't know. G'day everyone, The Stromness Parish Registers records:- 1st July 1802 James Smith, Blacksmith in Stromness, and Margaret Flett, were married by dispatch by the Rev'd Mr Wm Clouston. Can anyone please tell me what is the meaning the "married by dispatch". Hmm might be time for a virus check on my baby. I have lost a drive before but it was still under warranty and the stuff on it wasn't based on the hours and hours I have spent on research. Eek! Of course that's one reason I regularly update to Rootsweb. I wouldn't lose it all.....whew. My darling computer did something it ought not to have done, and it caught something nasty, which slowed it right down to the trots. Nothing at the pharmacy helped and I finally had to take it to the computer doctor, who diagnosed a virus. I was out of this world for a week but my computer is feeling better with a new drive, altho my bank does not feel the same, having had to produce 220 hard earned Canadian dollars/ However I am glad to be back in the real world. I have set up a website focusing on the island of Flotta in Orkney, which includes a message board for genealogical queries. You can find the site at www.flottawebguide.co.uk Any articles about any aspect of Flotta life would be very welcome. Many thanks, Sheena.

I've spent a lot of time on these and linked trees (including loads of Budges), but have never managed to find a connection on this branch. I am so so sorry, Listers! I was interacting with someone still on the topic of Hurr.Katrina, I thought off-List - and somehow my email got sent to the list instead of the to the person I was trying to privately email! :-(( My apologies, List Admin: Denice! ignore my last email! - Lisa C.
No, they left NOLA on Sun 28th, one car around 4.30 in the morning, another around 2.30pm... the latter (my cousin) spent 14 grueling hrs on her drive for what normally would have been about a 6 hr drive... hundreds of thousands left when evac became mandatory. I think they live(d) in what may be called NW NOLA ('tho they got to go back Mon to get what belongings they could, who knows when they can live there again - if they ever do), and that area remained somewhat dry. My cousin's husband is an engineer for a contractor of NASA (for the space shuttle), and that building took some damage as well. They are very lucky compared to many in NOLA - watching tv breaks your heart :-( L. {> on 9/3/05 3:40 PM <} Lisa Conrad wrote -- ... and find out if they had evacuated/were safe. Hi Lisa, Yes we have corresponded in the past on Allan and Rosie related info, this I think is our first contact involving our Budge interests, but I could be wrong. Your theory that Magnus Budge might have been the father of your 4G-grandfather James Budge could very well be correct, I have always thought that Henry in Gossigar, John in Windwick, and James were all brothers and that Magnus was their father, my reasons for thinking along these lines –I found a Henry Budge Born/ Chr. 1757 Father Magnus Budge, this Henry I have down as the one in Gossigar, you have your 4g-grandfather baptised 1759 and his father is Magnus Budge so they could very easily be brothers, I also have some information a first cousin of mine found in the Orkney Archives on a visit there a couple of years back From the Earldom rentals of the late 18th century-the following paid rent:- 1788-Henry Budge in Gossigar, and John Budge in Windwick. I believe these to be brothers, now, as my Oman Budge was living at Windwick at the time of his marriage; I would like to believe John was his father, just can’t find the proof. Again Oman being a witness at Isabel Budges marriage, was he a brother? Isabel’s parents were John Budge and Janet Norquay, there I think we have a link to Windwick, (with the father being John) and if Isabel is Oman’s sister Margaret Budge who married Donald Symison 1830 is another, her parents were also John Budge and Janet Norquay as was Helen Budge who was living with Margaret at Muckquoy in the 1851 census. As you say Lisa it is all a mish mash mess and the more I delve into it the more of a muddle I get into, one day I’m sure we will sort it all out. Oman Budge was a witness at the Marriage of an Isabel Budge to Thomas Swan 18th Dec. 1817 St Margarets Hope, her parents were John Budge and Jannet Norquoy, I am clutching at straws now, but could this Isabel Budge be a sister to my Oman Budge, it wasn't unusual to have ones siblings as witnesses at these occasions? Any one else researching this family? I could surely do with a little help on this one.
