Hello Suzie, If you happen to have any time left after you've searched for everyone else, would you mind keeping an eye out for any "Dearness" inscriptions you come across. Although to date none of my ancestors appear to have come from this area, well ..... you just never know what you might find by looking laterally. Thanks in anticipation. Jan in Melbourne.
Cathy - there was a William Park, son of John Park and his wife Margaret Banks of Burray b.1844... but he may have died, as there seems to be another son William born of this pair, in 1845, I think. This William Park, son of John Park and Margaret Banks, married on So. Ron in 1870 to Jessie Laird, dau of James Laird and Georgina Sutherland. But here is where I think we might be heading... PERHAPS: There was also a William Park, son of Isaac Park and his wife Charlotte Hossack, b.1830, and this Wm married Margaret Rosie [dau of Donald Rosie and his wife Margaret Ballantyne] on So. Ron in 1863. The birth entry on the same page, *notated just above* the birth entry for this William Park [in 1830] is the birth entry for: "Mathew" son of Robert Park and his wife Barbara "Dass"! And just below this William Park's birth entry [same year] is the birth entry for: Betsy Hossack, dau of William Hossack and his wife, Dorothy McDonald. Now, Cathy, you'll have to remind me, but did not your ANDERSON line interconnect with the Hossack & McDonald families? And you might check with Fiona MacNab, whose husband is connected with the Donald Rosie/ Margt.Ballantyne/Ballenden family line, if I remember correctly, to see if this William Park went to the USA - maybe with his first (?) wife, Margt Rosie, who *may* have died pre-1880 (if we have the right "William Park" who is in your ANDERSON census household in 1880), and he maybe remarried to an Ohio-born woman, "Jennie".... - {> on 12/2/05 9:21 PM <} Cathy Wagner wrote -- Is anyone on list looking for the Park family in South Ronaldsay? Lisa Just havent been on the site for I guess at least a year and a half!! Or......I guess I didn't notice a link to it, maybe had a mission when I was there, and me and my mission's well I don't see anything much beyond them... ....smile At any rate , is nice to see and if it really has been that long since I visited I think I might spend a day this week on site just checking out what you have been up to Lisa....... Now what about the cemetery stones, for South Ronaldsay.......maybe if we get people who visit there to submit their families or something, eventually there would not be many stones to cover What do you think Cathy -- No virus found in this outgoing message. May et al, I tried today and realised quickly that I had to register as if I was signing up, but the first option was the free view. It went smoothly after that. I got my info first hit, - an obituary for Sir Robert William Hamilton Kt. I suppose it helped that he was a knight of the realm ! Biggest problem was getting the page to the right size to print off ! Good luck to everybody else. Archie Gilbert, Kinross.

Sometimes I just get too excited--- Margaret Scollay's parents were probably George Scollay and Helen Rendall, no dates/times... Jim D
Fiona - George & Helen were my paternal GGGrandparents. Somewhere I have Helen D as daugh. of George Drever and Margaret Scolley/Scollay, chr. 16 Dec, 1746, Westray. Howdy, Cousin........ You have no idea how delightful it is to have a relative named "Fiona", probably my favorite Scottish Lady's name of all.......... Jim Driver, Arizona

I wonder if this is going to be a rash offer on my part, but........I am going to Westray for a week's holiday, at the end of this month. I shall hopefully be visiting all 3 kirkyards and I shall have my digital camera with me because a friend of mine wants some photos of a specific grave. If anyone on the list would like photos of any specific grave or monumental inscription, please let me know and I will try my best for you. Suzie
Here is a short list of some names from the microfilm recently in at the local FHC. I have seen a CD for sale of Seaman's Tickets in various Scotland counties, if anyone has this CD can they perhaps check the names against what is in this film ? I'll not spend hours transcribing some of these if they are already viewable on a CD. This one shows the original handwritten register books for the trips out and back of various sailing ships plus other information. Here are the names in the first few filmed pages. If they are to be gotten online or have been published already, I'll use my time to better advantage doing items not yet transcribed. Much of the handwriting is quite difficult to read anyway.
