    3. Tule Lake (two words) once covered a wide area to the south of the Malin townsite. The lake was shallow, and was easily drained to make farmland available for homesteading. A remnant of the lake remains and is now in the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It's a popular area for birdwatching. Tulelake (one word) is the name of a town established in the middle of the lakebed. Malin is in an area settled by Czechs in the 1900s. The town itself started taking shape in 1911. The Oregon-California border runs across the old Tule Lake area. The town of Tulelake is in California, Malin is in Oregon. Those interested in Malin might go to their local library and make an interlibrary loan request for Klamath Echoes No. 8. The Echoes series was produced in the 1960s and 70s by the Klamath County Historical Society. Volume No. 8 has a number of articles and photos on Malin and the surrounding area. The Klamath County Library has several copies of each issue in the series. Todd in Klamath Falls
