Herald & News Klamath Falls, Oregon July 18, 1945 By repute the first child born in Klamath Falls, when it was the little town of Linkville back in 1867, Mrs. Belle Skeen of Sprague River died at the Klamath Indian Agency Hospital Tuesday. Mrs. Skeen was the daughter of Henry Clay White and his Indian girl wife, Katherine Dixon. White was an Irishman who made his way into this country just about the time George Nurse put up the first building and Linkville assumed the proportions of a town. For two or three years, her relations say, Mrs. Skeen was the only child in the town, and she was the pet of the rugged pioneers who lived here. She married John Hodgen Miller, pioneer farmer, about 1890, and after his death married William Skeen. She lived here, at Fort Klamath and Sprague River. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ben Murphy, Mrs. Cora Crystal, Williamson River; Mrs. Wade Crawford, Medford; Mrs. Mona Skeen Hess, Sprague River and Mrs. Meda Savage, Coos Bay. July 15, 1945 Mrs. Belle Skeen is also survived by her husband William M. Skeen, a brother John Cole, Chiloquin; 5 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Funeral services were announced for Friday with the Reverend E.J. Tuning of the Sprague River Friends Church officiating. Committal service and interment will be made in the Fort Klamath Cemetery. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Life Events gives you the tips and tools to handle the turning points in your life. http://lifeevents.msn.com
