Herald & News January 8, 1981 Evangeline Schonchin Rosary Friday For Area Native Recitation of the Holy Rosary for Evangeline Beatrice Schonchin, Beatty, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd. A mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with graveside services and vault interment following at Chief Schonchin Cemetery in Sprague River. Visitation will continue until 8 o'clock tonight and all-day Friday at Davenport's. Mrs. Schonchin died at her birthplace, Whiskey Creek Ranch, near Beatty. She was 50. She was born November 26, 1930. to Buster Dickens and Beatrice Brown Dickens. She spent her entire life on the Whiskey Creek Ranch. On June 16, 1949, she married Donald Lloyd Schonchin in Reno, Nev. They renewed their wedding vows on the 20th anniversary at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Bonanza. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Schonchin continued to operate the Whiskey Creek Ranch along with her son Freddie Schonchin. She was an active supporter of day care locally, and was among the founders of the Organization of the Forgotten American. At the time of her death, she continued to be on OFA's board of Directors. She also was active on the All-Indian Rodeo Board for many years and was a member of St. James Apostle Catholic Church in Bly. In addition to her son, Freddie, survivors include children Donna Hicks and Deena Brink, both of Klamath Falls, Lauren Schonchin and Caroline Schonchin, both of Beatty and Sue Winebarger, Bonanza; father, Buster Dickens, Beatty; cousin, Millie Wilson, Warm Springs; nieces, Marilys Darrin and Marilyn Snokes, Bellingham, Wash; six grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. She was described by a family spokesman as "one who always voiced her opinion and received much respect for so doing." ++++++ Herald & News January 8, 1981 SCHONCHIN Recitation of the Holy Rosary for Evangeline Beatrice Schonchin will be Friday, Jan. 9, 1981 at 7:00 p.m. in Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd. Resurrection Mass will be offered Saturday, Jan. 10, 1981 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joseph Hayes celebrant. Graveside services and vault in interment will follow at MosenKasket Cemetery, Beatty, Ore. Visitation until 8:00 p.m. this evening and from 8:00 a.m. Friday. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd in charge of arrangements.
