Evening Herald February 5, 1927 Word was received in the city this afternoon of the death of Dave Copperfield, well known Indian of Chiloquin, who passed away in the neighboring town late last night. Copperfield had been ill for several days. ------------------------ Evening Herald February 7, 1927 The last rites for David Copperfield, well known and respected resident of Chiloquin, were held at the graveside in the Hill Cemetery on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. ------------------------- Klamath News February 6, 1927 David Copperfield, well known and respected resident of Chiloquin for the past 15 years, passed away at his late residence late Friday evening following an illness of several day's duration. The deceased was born in the vicinity of Merrill and was aged 50 years. Funeral services will be held at the graveside in the Hill Cemetery today (Sunday) at 10 o'clock under quarantine regulations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evening Herald June 6, 1927 Edward Copperfield, one of the most prominent members of the Klamath Tribe of Indians, passed away at his late residence near Beatty at an early hour Sunday morning, his passing terminating an illness of a week's duration. He was born in Klamath County in 1885, and was 42 years of age at the time of his passing. He is survived by a wife and large family. Among his neighbors, both white and Indian, he was known as a true friend. The funeral services will be held at the residence near Beatty tomorrow afternoon, under the direction of the Towey Mortuary. Interment will be made in Chief Schonchin Cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 13, 1932 Beatty - Three funerals were held at the local Methodist Church for the children of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Copperfield, Mr. and Mrs. Dice Crain and Mr. and Mrs. Lopez. Interment was held at the Mausenkasket and Chief Schonchin cemeteries. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evening Herald June 6, 1932 Edwin Wallace Copperfield, 19, grandson of Jeff Riddle and Mr. and Mrs. James Copperfield and great-grandson of the heroine of the Modoc War, Winema, died Saturday night at the home of his mother, Anna May Copperfield. Copperfield was a native of this county. He spent six months recently in Phoenix, Ariz., for his health, which he failed to regain. He was born near Beatty on Dec. 9, 1912, and was aged 19 years, 5 months and 15 days at the time of his death. In addition to his mother the following relatives survive: two brothers, Gilbert and Nathan Copperfield; four sisters, Alice Jackson, Mrs. Olive Weiser, Mrs. Josephine Weeks and Persil Anna Copperfield. ---------------------- Evening Herald June 8, 1932 Rev. Frank Young officiated at the last rites for the late Edwin Wallace Copperfield, which were held Tuesday afternoon at the Beatty Methodist Mission, and which was largely attended. A profusion of floral offerings surrounded the bier. Active pallbearers were Billy Weeks, Lester Jefferson, Lee Lynch, Andrew Billy, Cy Head, and Irvin Weiser, while honorary pallbearers were Archie Chip, Watkin Davis, Monroe Faithful, Sam Oliver, Owen Riddle and Everett Lynch. Music was furnished by the Mission Choir, in addition to several vocal solos by Dice Crane. Vault entombment was made in the family plot in the Chief Schonchin Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evening Herald January 2, 1934 James Copperfield, a scout of Capt. Applegate's company during the Modoc War, passed away March 21, 1933 at Beatty. On March 25 a firing squad of local National Guards accorded him military rites in Chief Schonchin Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 14, 1935 Mary Ann Copperfield, who has been confined in the Agency hospital for some time, is able to be home again. ----------------------------- Evening Herald November 20, 1939 Mary Ann Copperfield, a lifelong resident of the Klamath Reservation, passed away at the Klamath Agency Sunday evening, November 19. The deceased was a native of Beatty and was aged 87 years when called. She is survived by a brother, Lincoln Butler; grandchildren, Mrs. Ben Lawvor, Gilbert Copperfield and Nathan Copperfield; great-grandchildren, Edwin and Benjamin Lawvor. ---------------------------- Evening Herald November 21, 1939 The funeral service for the late Mary Ann Copperfield will take place from the Methodist Church in Beatty on Wed., Nov. 22 at 2 p.m., the Rev. B.V. Bradshaw officiating. The remains will rest in state in the church from 10 a.m. until the hour set for the final rites. Commitment service with vault entombment in the Chief Schonchin Cemetery. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 7, 1966 Nathan Copperfield, 46, died in Vancouver, Wash., April 4, 1966. Survivors: mother, Anna May Copperfield; sister, Alice E. Chipps; nieces, Birdie M. Joe, Dorothea J. Crume, Diane Powers, Carmelita Sampson, Wilda M. Weiser and Bonnie Nieto; nephews, Ben, Albert and Edwin Lawvor, Bill Duffy, Lorentino Weiser and Ervin J. Weiser; also numerous great-nieces and nephews.
