Primitive Pragmatists Page 225 Mary Chiloquin, born about 1880, near Tule Lake, sister of Anderson Faithful. Mary served both as informant and interpreter; her English was good. Her immediate ancestry was Modoc but her maternal grandmother was Shasta. She was married to a Modoc-Shasta man. Although young, she retained many old custons such as mat and basketry making, and the gathering and cooking of water-lily seeds in the old manner. Much of her knowledge of the aboriginal culture came from her mother who lived until 1934. She was well acquainted with the whole Modoc country and provided valuable geographical information. Her mother was Kate Jefferson Faithful. Her husband was Albert Chiloquin. _________________________________________________________________ Watch the online reality show Mixed Messages with a friend and enter to win a trip to NY http://www.msnmessenger-download.click-url.com/go/onm00200497ave/direct/01/
