Evening Herald July 23, 1935 Chiloquin, Oregon Harley Jackson, about 20, and Alfred Butler, about 22, both of Sprague River, were injured late Monday afternoon, when the car they were driving overturned on the Pine Ridge Road about a half a mile north of here. Jackson suffered internal injuries in the accident, Butler was cut and brusied. Both Indian youths were taken to the Klamath Agency Hospital. The auto, property of Jackson's grandfather, William Turner Jackson, was completely demolished. Alleging that through their neglect, 30 cords of wood belonging to him had been destroyed by fire. Truax and Hunt for an ailment of his heart. ------------------------------------------ Evening Herald July 6, 1915 MODOC ANSWERS LAST ROLL CALL Robin Hood, Well-Known Modoc Indian, Lieutenant of Police On the Reservation Years Ago, Dies Robin Hood, one of the best known Indians on the reservation for reliability and steadfastness, being a lieutenant of police years ago under Captain O.C. Applegate on the reservation, passed away in this city on Sunday, July 4, 1915. Robin was a brother of Charles Hood, one of the best educated Modocs in this country, who was educated at Carlisle University in the East. Robin and Charles have both been prominent in the tribal councils, and have been suggested a number of times for a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with the Great White Father. Robin was about 10 years old when the Modocs were taken from this country to Oklahoma, and returned here about 16 years ago. He had been ill here for some time, and was about 52 years old when he died. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 26, 1940 Beatty - Mrs. Zelma Riddle Hood, who has been at the Klamath Agency hospital, is reported to be feeling much better. Klamath Republican July 13, 1911 ALIE HARDING IS DEAD FROM WOUND Fort Klamath, July 7 - Alie Harding, the Indian who was shot a few days ago in a quarrel with Prim Weeks, another Indian, died this morning from his wounds, and Weeks will be placed under arrest. The quarrel took place several days ago on the reservation between Williamson River and Modoc Point. Herald and News March 30, 1965 GIVAN RITES HELD HERE Funeral services for Dallas Gordon Givan Jr., of Henley, were held in Ward's Klamath Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Monday, March 29. Final rites and interment were in Mt. Laki Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leland Stoehsler, Ted Lubbe, Vincent Cheyne, Ed Osborne, Tulelake, Vernon McNair, Beatty, and Lee Decker, Bly. Mr. Givan, 37, died at the family home in the Henley district March 25. He was a past president of the Klamath Reservation Jaycees, had been named Farmer of the Year in 1962, was President of the Klamath County Junior Rodeo Association for two years, after assisting with its organization, was a member of the Soil Conservation Board, was a member of Klamath Falls Lodge #1247 BPOE, and attended the Mt. Laki Presbyterian Church. During the Korean War he served as a forward observer in the Signal Corps. He was engaged as a logger before coming to the Henley district to farm. Survivors include the widow, Ida Lee; sons, Dallas H., and James J.; a daughter, Ann Jane, all of Henley; mother, Mrs. Inez Griffin, Henley; father, Dallas Givan Sr., Beatty; sisters, Martha Cassidy, Baker, and Patricia Shaver, Woodland, California. _________________________________________________________________ Best Restaurant Giveaway Ever!
