    1. [ORIGINAL-13] THAMES surname
    2. Tony & Julie Howell
    3. hello - i am new to this list and would like to ask if anyone is researching the THAMES/THAME/TAME surname. one of our researchers on the Rootsweb THAMES surname list has found information that WILLIAM THAMES was granted a license in 1634 by King Charles I "to import tobacco from the colony of Virginia." William THAMES was born in 1584 in Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. His father's name was Henry THAME. William was a merchant in the towns of Buxton and Chapel en le Frith, England. William is said to have had two sons: Thomas, who lived in London (in Bishopsgate without the wall), and William who immigrated to Maryland in 1666, living possibly in Anne Arundel County. There are records which indicate that the William THAMES who immigrated to Maryland in 1666 had three sons - Joseph (who died in Charles Co, Md), Thomas (who is said to have lived in Md, Va, and NC, where he died) and John (who died in Queen Anne Co, Md). Many descendants of the THAMES family moved to NC, SC, GA, ALA, LA, MISS, TX, and FL. We know, however, that some THAMES-es stayed in Maryland and moved northward. Members of the Rootsweb THAMES surname list recently formed the THAMES/TIMS Family Association and we have set up a web site, www.thames-tims.org. Variations of the surname include TIMMS, TIMS, THEAMES, TIMES and others. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on any THAMES family members. thanks, Julie Thames Howell Jacksonville, Fl
