Is anyone working on the Op De Graff family? I am working on a branch of them but I'm stuck connecting them. My trail ends in NY in 1833. My group spells the name Uptegraff. William was born in PA before 1801. In 1801 he lives in Clarence, Erie Co., Ny. He marries Mary Shuman. Their children are Sarah UPTEGRAFF (Jun 1808-Mar 6 1852) Elizabeth "Besty" UPTEGRAFF (1812-1887) William UPTEGRAFF (Oct 22 1812-Sep 9 1877) George UPTEGRAFF (Apr 16 1815-Feb 24 1856) John UPTEGRAFF (Oct 13 1817-Feb 6 1888) Esther UPTEGRAFF (Sep 1824-Jul 28 1899) Henry UPTEGRAFF (Oct 12 1827-Feb 7 1890) Thomas UPTEGRAFF (1828-Nov 23 1905) Christopher Bennet UPTEGRAFF (1830-) Cornelia "Anne" UPTEGRAFF (Oct 11 1833-Dec 18 1916) William dies about 1833-1837. Mary and all the children move to MI settling in Oakland and Genesee Counties where we still live today. Any help is appreciated. I am willing to share the research I have including pictures. hi Julie and others ... am also looking for proof, rebuttal, missing links in my Op den Graeff lineage .... the KNOWN ancestor is Elisabeth/Eliza Updegraff/Updegraft b. 1797 PA (though possibly born in Maryland) (her known siblings were Matilda b. 1800, Susan(na) b. 1805) she d. 31 Oct 1882 and is buried in Carlisle, Cumberland, PA m. 1827 John Keeny ("the miller") 1804-11 Jul 1858 Carlisle (their children: David U., John S., Jacob W., Susan, Daniel B., Matilda R.) her father was said to be "Joseph" ... there is a quite-possible Joseph available, 1767-1807, son of Derrick Updegraff and Susan Stricker (no marriage has been proven for him; he is documented as an attorney handling his father's affairs) there is a "Jas Updegraff" buried in the graveyard in Carlisle PA, no dates ... "Jas" is usually short for JAMES, but the stone may have been misread, may actually have said "Jos" which could be the shortened form of Joseph ... a cousin gave the the information that Joseph Updegraff married Susan(na) Boone (possibly Boon or Bohn); but was unable, due to a medical condition, to remember where he dug up that information; his genealogy records were stolen from a storage locker ... I believe he might have received a death certificate from PA ... as I was unable to find this info in three weeks of digging at the FHL Bobbi Dodge, while researching a possibly-related family, came across a family Bible, suggesting that we might be talking about JESSE Updegraff of Maryland Julie, I find I have in my files a William Updegraff b. 1730, m. widow Sarah (Bennett) Day on 16 Mar 1762 in York Co PA; could your William be related to this man ? this William is son of Herman Updegraff and Mary Ann Lowden, believe he is named in Herman's will ... he would be brother of the Derrick Updegraff I mention above cheers, Candy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julie Alspach" <juliealspach@wideopenwest.com> To: <ORIGINAL-13-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: March 25, 2005 06:29 AM Subject: [ORIGINAL-13] RE: ORIGINAL-13-D Digest V05 #6 > Is anyone working on the Op De Graff family? > > I am working on a branch of them but I'm stuck connecting them. Julie: There is something about your post, that makes me think that I was writing of this family of Op De Graff, way back when this was a private list (before becoming part of the Rootsweb Mailing List). This was in connection with my Quaker MENDENHALLs & Allied Families of Chester County, PA --the Op De Graff or variation of name with ties to a family that migrated around PA/NY border. My post to ORIGINAL-23 predated any found 2000 & on in the ARCHVES listed below. I shall check my files as time permits and get back to you, if possible. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ORIGINAL-13 ORIGINAL-13-L Archives (threaded) This list has always facinated me. I lived in Montgomery County, PA for quite a number of years; and would take the Chestnut Hill Local (train) to Center City (town) with travel through Germantown.
