    1. [ORIGINAL-13] The bible of Jan Lucken (Lukens) (Luykens)

    3. Vince asked that this be posted to the list. I do not have a copy of the Dutch Bible bought to this country by Jan Lukens (Lucken) (Luykens). About 15 - 20 years ago, when Tacy Blake, a member of the Genealogical Sociey of Pennsylvania, located on Locust Street in Philadelphia, asked to see this bible, she was denied access. I do not know if the bible was the property of the Historical Society of Pa. or The Genealogical Society both housed in the same building, but since have parted ways. It seems to me a photocopy of this bible should be available to patrons of both societies. I gave up my membership to the Genealogical Society of Pa. when retiring to Florida, 20 years ago. Somewhere in my files ( in such disarray, luck plays a part in finding anything) is a statement of Abraham Lukens, when he was about to marry Elizabeth Walker, he apologized for marrying out of meeting and he was immediately re-enstated. They were married at the Gwynedd (Pa) MM on 26 November 1771. From this statement, can we assume that Abraham was a Quaker? Does this statement mean that Elizabeth Walker was a Quaker, connected to another Meeting or does it mean she was not a Quaker? Regards, Mary Deaves
