A while back someone sent an email which said that a descendent of the Schumacher family had said his family was of jewish ancestry and came to the US from Spain through holland. The author of the email said he doubted that that could be true, because it didnt seem likely that anyone would take that route to get to America. However, I just read an early American history book that said that there were quite a few jews who, to avoid persecution in Spain, came to the US through Holland.
