Dear List Members: I am a new member to the list and I'm hoping that somebody will be able to help me or point me in the right direction. I have been told that the Dennis name is derived from the surname Tunes and therefore why I am sending this query to your list. I am currently trying to determine who are the ancestors of a John Dennis. John Dennis married a Catharine Elizabeth Kohl. They lived in the District Twp., Berks Co., PA area which is very close to Montgomery Co., PA and the original location of Germantown. They had a daughter by the name of Catharine who was born on 5 July 1775. She married a George Haines (Hains, Henns, Heinz, Heintz, etc) who is my 4th great-grandfather and therefore my interest in this surname.
