While doing my searches in the census, graveyards, and internment records, and talking to family members still alive, I overcome one obstacle to come up against another. It is a given that the census spelling of last names varied. I have one problem that has stumped me and my cousin for a very long time. I am looking for the parents of Peter Updegroff " this is the spelling I find him in the census ". He was born around 1803 and married a Rebbecca Sampsell. b.1805. They had 3 children: Susanna, Daniel, and Mary. Daniel was born in 1834 in Northumberland County, Pa. I have his actual date of birth filed. served in the GAR and held the rank of 1st Sgt., verified by the V.A. and is listed in the book The history of Center and Centra counties of Pa. In 1860 Peter was listed under Daniels household in the census in Pa. Daniel was married to a Elizabeth? died on June 25 1912 and is buried in the Muncy cemetery at Muncy, Pa. Daniel and Elizabeth has a few children: Fred, John. Elizabeth, Augustus, George M., Sara J., Cora, William D. Fred or Fredrick was listed in the census in 1870 as Joseph, and then was changed Fred was born on April 26, 1870, and married a Marry Margret Strickland, and after she passed he remarried to a Jennie Hines? The children were from Mary : John W., and Cora John was born on August 02, 1892, married Ella Marie Zarr. John Died May 22, 1960. Their children : Arthur Sr. b. 14 Feb. 1930 d. 9 Dec. 1966, Ida Mae b. 12 June 1920 d. Oct. 1977, George d. 1986, John Jr. passed on as a child, Ruth passed on at a very early age, William b. 6 May 1918 d. Nov. 1974, and James who is still living. My father Arthur Sr. son of John W., son of Fredrick, son of Daniel, son of Peter, son of ? Most of the family is buried in the Muncy Cemetery at Muncy Pa.
