I have been given a xerox of something, which, if Gene Stackhouse, as President of the Germantown Historical Society, will allow it, I would like to make it available to the group. Since it was an invitation the Historical Society made, I think it necessary to see if he can and will obtain the necessary permission... Gene??? It consists of a copy of the Germantown Founders' Day Invitation, as held on October 7,8, and 9 of 1983, for the Tricentennial. That is, it is the Schedule of Events. Let me know, please, and if it is OK, I will scan it, and put it on a site I have, unknown to the general public, and members of our list can download it. I would leave it available for a relatively short period of time... Say a week, unless the time limit would be allowed to be indefinite. Vince Summers

We might have a double connection, besides the Opdengraff. I have Piersol line too, Isaac Piersol from PA. I don't know lots about the line. I'll have to look at it a bit later when I have time. In a matter of about a half hour, I should have posts 1-100 of the old archives, available in zip format at: http://www.nrao.edu/~vsummers/myfiles Of course the others that I have gotten copied over are there too. Just to tell you why I am posting this notice before it happens--- At least letters 39, and 71 through, oh, perhaps 80, contain info on Dewees. Vince Summers
This is my first look at your list, and I am truly impressed. I have been researching the Dewees Family for many, many years, and am aware of the "Original-13" members of the Vessel "Concord". Our John Dewees, a revolutionary in Kent County (b.1749) married Mary Updegrove (parents Uptegrove), in Misspillion Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. The Dewees', too, were Dutch, and Religeous Reformers. They first settled in Germantown, PA and moved to Delaware. Mary's parents were William and Sary Uptgegrove, also of Delaware. Her grandparents were Isaac Op den Graeff (1693-1747) and Rachel Litton, great grandparents, Herman Op den Graeff (ca. 1642- 11/7/1708) and Deborah Van Bibber (1660-1727). I have much of the old Op den Graeff history. What I would like is any information on her parents (William and Sary) and siblings (Isaac & William). Mary moved to Fayette County PA with her family and died November 5, 1818. Her husbands family came from Amsterdam where Adriaen Hendricksz de Wees was born ca. 1585. The family descends through 1) Hendricks de Wees (son) 2) Gerret Hendricks Dewees (grandson who immigrated to the States) 3) Lewis Dewees (great grandson, who married a Mary Wheeler, ca. 1706 in Philadelphia - Old Germantown) He learned weaving from Mary's father, John Wheeler. Lewis moved to Kent County, Delaware. 4) Samuel Dewees (great-great grandson, who had at least 4 children, Joshua, John, Samuel, and Isaac Dewees - all fought in the Delaware Line - Kent County, Revolutionary War) 5) John Dewees b. 1749, great-great-great grandson who married Mary Updegrove. John and brother Joshua moved to Fayette County PA. After Mary's death, the children moved into what is now West Virginia. Thanks for any help ahead of time. John C. Dawson

There is a picture of the 1983 Concord Stamp on the following website: www.alltel.net/~kmoore/
I don't know about the engraving, but you can get a copy of the stamp and most stamp dealers. I bought several copies over the Internet. I just discovered there was a Tricentennial issue of a 20 cent stamp picturing the Concord. Is this indeed an engraving of the real ship? If so, can anyone suggest where I might get a copy of the engraving? Thanks for the help. Dulcy Bryan
It isn't really the real ship. It is a supposition of how it probably looked. The engraving is owned by the post office. You might be able to get the stamp at a philatelic store. You can also buy key chains with the stamp encased in plastic from the Germantown Historical Society, 5501 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19144 It is a 20cent stamp with the legend Concord 1683 German Immigration Tricentennial Cost $7.50, postage paid. Eugene Stackhouse, President, Germantown Historical Society
I don't have this specific couple, but the Douglas family married the Johnsons who married my set of Lukens, and EVERYONE from the Douglas/Johnson clan originates in South River MM, VA. So it's undoubtedly connected. Spelling of Cadwalader differs from mine and Lea Buzby's lot as we have two L's.
I was talking about an entirely different subject, surname BROWN, on vaalbema-L, when lo and behold, the golden name CADWALADER comes up! Is this name of any connection to the descendants who connect to the 13 (like that sentence?). Mahlon Cadwalader, m. June 10, 1809 South River Meeting House, VA Elizabeth Douglas. If so, please contact me. Vince
Hi, I've not posted before, but am going to try now. My lines from the Op Den Graff family is complicated and has several cousin marriages. This is what has been given to me, taken from information mainly from the Castor Association of America and the Nicholas Cain Book. Does any one know for sure about these lines? I have been hesitant to post trying to figure a way to do it! They are difficult to chart so I hope this is understandable.
