The item #2040 is not a sheet of stamps but rather is a first day cover, used Concord stamp. not really in demand at all except for some filberts like us who have ancestors who came over. I suggest that we try to get a single, unhinged, copy of the US stamp and the like-one issued by Germany, and that way we can have both. Local stamp dealers are generally helpful.
I'm not sure if this is the same stamp, but I found #2040 The Concord at this address: http://page.auctions.yahoo.com/auction/16459286 Perry Shappell
There is a Founders Monument in Vernon Park in Germantown. Is this the statue that you refer to?

Does anyone know if the statue appearing on Liese Uptegrove's page, honoring the "original 13 families" was ever built in Germantown? All I was able to find there was the one honoring Pastorius with the others names listed below his. Barb Locker
I have two copies I bounght off of ebay. Prior to that I had inquired the US Post Office, and being 1983 stamps, they are no longer available through any source other than a private party (ebay, collector, personnel, etc.,). Occassionally you can spot one on ebay, as I found two. Use the "Concord" as a source word for the search in both the title and description portion for all catagories. Hi gang, I have a question I would like to throw at the Original 13 group, because I am seeking information on either Andrew or Gerhardt Schrauger who married Janicken (Jane) Hendricks. Three of his children married three children of Godshalk Hermans Godshalk. Most of this information is in Phila or Montg. Co. PA. I would like to know if anyone has this man's name correctly listed, and do you know where in Germany he originated. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Susan Hunsicker [email protected]

Hello! I am seeking to find someone who knows both German and old German fairly well, preferrably someone living in Germany, who might be willing to start a site to Satellite my email list, The Original 13 Settlers of Germantown (Pennsylvania). We, have the list [email protected] It has homepage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~original13/ Why I write to you, is partly obvious. Many on your list may be qualified, and someone might wish to spearhead this endeavor. The person would, logically, want to know English, too. We are interested in what happened on both sides of the Atlantic, for at least a few decades time window, when, in October of 1683, 13 families, and some other families, left for Pennsylvania, 13 stopping at what came to be called Germantown, Pennsylvania. There is a stamp commemorating this event. Not that we are trying to create superheroes here, but we are interested in the events that took place, and the effects of it all. Also, our family lines and the connections involved. It would really boost things if work on both sides were ongoing, with communication between the two groups. Would you be willing to post this letter to your group, to see if anyone would be interested in such a process? Complete information as to who the 13 were can be found on the homepage listed above. Thanks for your consideration, Vincent Edward Summers
I have two copies of the German & US Stamps, I purchased on Ebay. Occassionally they will pop up there. Thanks Vince, BK, and Shirley for sharing the German Concord stamps with the group. Does anyone live near a stamp dealer that could try to get all of us a copy of the stamps? What say ye? Also the idea of a German connection is a great one! Maybe we could get on a rootsweb list for a town in Germany (Kaldenkirchen or Kempen etc) and propose this question? Barb L.
Dear Lea Buzby: Mr. Summers indicated that you had some information to share. We have information on the Potts/Bone famalies (and some other PA roots), and would enjoy corresponding with you. We are retired teachers, who live in College Station TX. We spoil grandchildren, garden, do genealogy, and travel. Is Lea a nickname? One of our daughters is called "Lea," short for Alethea. Sincerely, R. D. and Jewell Thomas
Folks, By-and-large, this site, now fairly large, consists of American members studying the Krefeldt emigrants to Germantown. Wouldn't it be very interesting if some sort of "satellite" group established itself overseas? Researching and taking photographs, and doing genealogical research into the lines, over there? Maybe, overall, the event is not to significant to most. But maybe if someone knew how to do it, another list, with a page, etc., could be established over the big water, and with a non-English membership! Using German resources, search engines, etc. Is there anyway that one of you could think of, that would make such an event a practicable one? I am thinking aloud here, but I think it might stimulate further research, and be a very interesting project to boot. Vince Summers
Hi David, Since you are going to be in Germany anyway, you might be interested to know that the World's Fair or Expo is being held in Hannover, Germany this summer. It begins on June 1 and sounds like a very interesting event, although not very well publicized here. We almost decided to go and visit both Expo and Krefeld, but we are just opting for England instead. Have a wonderful trip and take lots of pictures. Cheers, Barbara Good Hannover Online - TourismEXPO2000 http://www.expo.hannover.de/english/start/tourist.htm
Greetings: I have not posted in some time; have been recovering from some surgery, but have continued to read the Digest and keep up with what's happening. Some months ago, I posted here our intention to travel to Europe, including a day trip to Krefeld. That trip was postponed due to the surgery, but is now back on. We leave June 24 and return home on July 15 or so. Our day in Krefeld occurs around the end of the first week of the trip. If anyone has any updated information on the windows or other data on Krefeld, I would be pleased to receive it. I am not sure what I will accomplish there, but I do at least intend to visit one or more Mennonite Churches and see if I can learn anything through that vehicle. Other ideas would be welcome. Thanks. DAVID UPDEGRAFF [email protected]
