    2. Vincent Summers
    3. It begins to look like it is possible my distant connection to ZIMMERMAN (a descendant connected line to the 13), may be real. There are many ZIMMERMANs, but this one was from Germantown. Louisa D. Zimmerman, b. July 6, 1863 in Germantown, PA, d. Feb. 7, 1901 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the wife of Edward D. Snellbaker Jr., who was b. Mar 2, 1863 in Salem Co., NJ, and died aft. 1927. That is the piece of worm. Any nibbles? Vince

    1. [ORIGINAL-13] John TUNIS, s/o Anthony & Mary Williams TUNIS
    2. Vincent Summers
    3. Does anyone show a date of birth and any source for John TUNIS, s/o Anthony & Mary Williams TUNIS? For Anthony, under NOTES, I list this: Occupation: Weaver/Blacksmith/Inn Keeper 1743 - Elected Constable, Lower Merion Twp. 1751 - Supervisor of Twp. roads. Weaver by trade Blacksmith Ordinary/Innkeeper (Tunis Ordinary/"today's Anthony Wayne Inn) Postmaster of Lower Merion Twp. See Joseph Tunis's Will For More, see my Ayres file. In the following article, Eugene Stackhouse, President of the Germantown Historical Society says: I think that whoever wrote the reference made a mistake.-- This is reference to a fire at the Germantown MM. Another poster said: In it's first years Abington Meeting covered a large territory, including what is now Germantown in Philadelphia. The meeting in Germantown was a Preparative Meeting under Abington in its early years, and sometimes the Abington Meeting records indicate when someone lived in the Germantown area. Germantown Meeting was later set up separately.- A. Crosman. ANTHONY TUNIS 1693/4 - 1762 INN - ORDINARY KEEPER, MERION, LOWER MERION TWP., PHILADELPHIA CO., PA. Anthony Tunis was born 24th day, 1st month, 1693/4, as recorded in the Abington Meeting House records, in German Town, Philadelphia County, Pa., one of at least 5 children, and apparently, second son, of Abraham Tunes (Klinken) (he apparently dropped the "Klinken" surname on emigrating, as all records existing show only "Tunes"), one of the 13 original immigrant-founders of German Town, Pa., who arrived at that spot in October 1683, on the "Concord". Anthony's mother is not known exactly, since Abraham was married on departing Crefeld, Germany, to Beatrix Lukens, but she may have died shortly after arrival; all records for the early years apparently were lost in a fire of the German Town, meeting house; all subsequent records were entered in the Abington Meeting House records. Abraham married second, a Bathsheba _____, date unknown, and surname unknown. Anthony died before 29 May 1762, date of probate of will. He married Mary Williams, daughter of John Williams and Ellen Klinken, in the Merion-Radnor Meeting House, Merion, Pa; Mary was born 7th day, 2nd month, 1697, in Philadelphia CO., Pa; she died 19 September 1769. Anthony Tunis rented, in 1746, what had been, since 1709, the "Wayside Inn", and also the "William Penn Inn", from the heirs of Robert Jones, its founder and owner. On his assumption of the Inn, Anthony added an Ordinary Room, or "restaurant" to the Inn; On the basis of this addition, the Inn now became known as "Tunis Ordinary". It continued as such until after his death in 1762, his heirs continued to operate it until 1776. Since the location of Tunis Ordinary was at one of the main intersections of the Philadelphia-Lancaster road, and the main highway to the just-then opening West, with ever increasing traffic, the Inn-Ordinary became an important stopping place, and a center of activity for the township itself. Anthony Tunis, from all accounts was an affable, gregarious person. He was apparently not only an inn-keeper, but was also reported to have been a fine, experienced blacksmith; his Inn was also the local post office, and it is reported that Benjamin Franklin visited there in 1763, on his inspection tour of the province as Postmaster-General of the Colonies, and supposed to have helped sort the mail on that visit. Anthony was also sheriff of Lower Merion Township. >From remaining accounts, the price of a meal at "Tunis Ordinary" was two shillings, the same price charged for lodging a man and feeding his horse overnight. Anthony died between the time he wrote his will, 6th day, 2nd month, 1762, and the date of probate, which was 29th day, 3rd month, 1762, leaving his son, Joseph as sole executor, and son Abraham, as trustee. In his will he names wife, Mary, sons Joseph and Abraham, and daughters Elenor Cooke, Alse (Alice) Lees (dec'd), Agnes, Catherine (Kite), Elizabeth, Hannah Reber, Bathsheba (Griffith, and six grandchildren, and son-in-law, Evan Griffith. It would seem that his family ran the Inn until 1776, when Abraham Streeper acquired the Inn; during the Revolution, Streeper joined the patriot cause, as First Lieutenant in the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Line. He left the running of the Inn to his wife and servants. The Inn was known as "Streeper's Inn" until about 1795, when a lavish reception was held to celebrate the victory of major General Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers, at which reception the General was present, since he was a resident of a nearby community. >From that day, to the present, the Inn became known as the "General Wayne Inn", although, today, it is no longer an inn or lodging place, but still serves meals and liquors as it did from its beginnings at its location, Montgomery Avenue, Merion, Pennsylvania. 3. Isaac Kite (Kiete) Sr. was married to Catherine (Katherine) Tunis. One of their children, Isaac Kite, Jr., married Sarah Sellers. I have a pretty good amount of "stuff" on Sellers, although there is a page by Vicki MacDonald that has, not only my material, but that of others. I will try to send the Sellers information later today in two parts, due to it being about 59 Kb as one letter. I must send it, not as an attachment, if I want it to get through and be satisfactory. Even then, it is possible that you will need to reformat it a bit to make it usable to you... Vince

    2. HI VINCE!!!! I had No clue you didn't know the connections with MOST of the original-13, It is My main Maternal father's side. It Started out as a Medical journey, to finding such wonderful History.. That I just became so ADDICTED that, This is what I do, for Free for Fee's, for exchange.... One way or another, Any familiy menber in it with Zimmerman PRIOR to 1700, Has Zimmerman Blood, and May only have a Female with noi last name... Much of the line is on my page, In some cases Users must type or copy and paste the URL into your Browser.. Doesn't fail many but I figured out another solution.. There is no Grand Details, but names Dates and places, and YES to all of the list, even they went to Ohio, My Grandfather's direct line does NOT have a connection in my direct , they all stayed in Berks and Mong county.. I have information for anyone who would like to know about it.. And I have MANY sources, even the earliest Zimmermans are in Van Fossen, Suppllee, Dehaven, Luckens, tyson, Stackhouse I THINK Opde Graeff is after 1700, but you can almost name one line, and I have the connection Including the information regarding the connection between them and Daniel Pastorious. Glad to see more getting that far... If you would like information I have in my notes and quotes and wills, Email me at [email protected] I have AIM/AOL sn is GenlinkZ {{{{{{{{{{{ Welocme to the family Vince}}}}}}}}}}} Email me who and what you have and I will put you in the right line. the next arrivals where 1706, then the migration of 1730's and 4o's.. there is a Zimmerman/FORNEY group that is not related at all, and there is also a Zimmerman Carpenter line , mostly in PA, that are a Swiss line, so Timing means everything with this bunch... and I recomend NOT Joing the Magister Zimmerman line, WHICH I am a part of Until you know if you have this family, Many of my Zimmerman seeking friends have been Misled bye one person for over two years... and I would not like to see it happen to anyone else.. 1. [ORIGINAL-13] Surname ZIMMERMAN?
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. I think I have seen more than one post on Surname: ZIMMERMAN over the past years, posted here. I never had any ZIMMERMAN, so I basically stayed out of any discussions on that name. Now, it turns out, that a family member seeks such a name going back to Baden-Baden Germany. I do not know if it connects at all to the 13. Which is why, at this point, I wish to ask you to contact me privately at [email protected] If it turns out to connect, then I would like to enter the data that is uncovered by myself, and my respondent, to the list for everyone's benefit. BTW, just a reminder. If you see a query, and it is a line you know to be of the descendants of the original 13, please, if you are willing, share the data with the list, so that we do not merely archive queries, but solutions, too. Auf wiedersehen (is that how it is spelt?), Vince

    3. Could a scan of this information, in its original handwriting, perhaps with signature, be obtained? Whether accurate or no, I could temporarily put it on my file site (I will eventually improve my choice of sites for posting downloadable files), so that others interested could download a copy of the document. 2. Stackhouse, Gene
    3. One of the Original settlers of Germantown was Paulus Kuster, though he was not one of the "ORIGINAL-13" that came on the 'Concord'. He was married to Gertrude Doors who was related to most of the Original-13. Paulus Kuster was the ancestor of General George Armstrong Custer. I recently wrote an article for the 'Germantown Crier', the journal of the Germantown Historical Society, on General Custer's Roots in Germantown. In researching this article, I discovered that a granddaughter of Paulus, Mary Custer (daughter of Paulus' son Johannes) married a William Michener. I am descended from a William Michener (this is the Michener Family of Bucks County into which the author James Michener was adopted). So, I went to some sources here in Germantown and down in Philadelphia and I discovered that my William Michener was, in fact, married to Mary Custer and that I am a direct descendant of Paulus Kuster. So, my roots in Germantown go back to about 1690. This was new information for me. Eugene Glenn Stackhouse President, Germantown Historical Society.

At any rate, here is the post from that site: By Sherri Isgar The following is taken from the book "Memorial of Thomas Potts, Jr., 1874" By Mrs. Thomas Potts James (published in 1874) on the Keurlis family.... "At a monthly meeting, held the 20th of 8th mo., 1699, whereas Thomas Potts and Martha Courlin (Keurlis seems to have been the German orthography), having declared their intention of marriage with each other before two monthly meetings, inquiry being made by persons appointed and found clear from all others on account of marriage, did accomplish their marriage in the unity of Friends, as is signified by thier marriage certificate". Martha was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Keurlis, and had come from Germany with her parents, in company with Pastorius, 16 years before. An allotment of land was made to Peter Keurlis in the laying out of Germantown, and his name appears frequently in the early records as one of the original householders. ..."
