    1. [ORIGINAL-13] Barracks Co., PA
    2. I got caught in the midwest last weekend during the snowstorm and just made it back to the East coast and my email and saw the two posts. Are these as a result of my inquiry as to an actual place called Pennsylvania Barracks which is listed as the birthplace of my ancestor Edward Uptegrove on his Revolutionary War enlistment sign-up? I can assure Erik that "Barracks" is quite legible but that Pennsylvania is not and that is what I am questioning because I have been told that is what the translation is but since I have been unable to find such a place I am not using Pennsylvania Barracks as a factual birthplace. I am endeavoring to find someone with "knowledge" of the area and era to point me in the right direction so that I may continue my quest to find the documentation I need. I am not looking for short cuts or microwave genealogy as I have done quite well in proving and having 3 separate lines accepted by the Mayflower Society. Can anyone help me with Pennsylvania Barracks? Judy

I have noticed numerous Conrad(s) or similiar spellings. I have Gertrut Conrads who maried Arnold Kuster (Kuesters) 24 Jun 1691 in the Reformed Church in Krefeld, Germany. I believe she died before 1700 as I can not find her in PA after Arnold immigrates. Anyone have any info? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. [ORIGINAL-13] FROM NEW LIST MOM - PLEASE READ
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. My name is Kathleen Burnett and I am your new List Mom. I want to take a moment and let you know who I am and a little about myself and how I work as a Mailing List Mom. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 9.8. I work outside of the home during the day. I am a list Mom to several other Mailing Lists. I am very actively involved in my own family research. I am a hands on List Mom, meaning I keep track of what is going on with the mailing list and if you are ever in need of me during the day, while at work, you can reach me at Kathleen.Burnett@era.com - in the evenings or on Sunday I can be reached at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net My goal for your list is to keep it a safe place for you to research post and share information regarding the ORIGINAL-13. Safe meaning a place where you are not subject to postings other than posting related to the subject of the list. For your information, the ORIGINAL-13 Mailing List has 288 members, 191 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 97 to the Digest List. I have very few rules on my lists, the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, Roll Calls will be called only by me, and most likely never on this list, and the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in ORIGINAL-13. From there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ I wish for each of you a success with your most difficult genealogical mystery and I look forward to getting to know you. 2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. As you know, I feel it is the time to turn this list (which I may say has a number of its original subscribers from 5 or 7 years or so ago!) over to other hands. Kathleen Burnett has agreed to take on the responsibilities of this list. I have assured her it is a fine list of capable persons. I do know you folks take your data seriously and have done so, in a number of instances, for decades -- whenever possible "laying your hands (or at least your eyes) upon original documents, etc. Some of you have gone overseas in the pursuit of such. There are premier databases to be found among a number of those subscribed to this list. I won't get too deeply into matters, but suffice it to say, some of you will remember when this list was not even a Rootsweb list at all (a few of you probably wish it still wasn't, but we won't go there). In fact, I forget the original server name... It was a small list. First 1, then 2, 3, a small handful, etc., growing and growing in a fairly short period of time. The oddest thing of all is that my concept of the list was only only a mere mental sketch, and I had no idea how popular a topic it really was. In fact, I am one of the least qualified to have formed such a list, as my connection is really quite slim! Its formation was closely tied in with Robert James Hardie, now deceased. You who are the oldtimers of this list will remember that. He wanted his data to go online. He died very shortly before he was to gain computer access for the first time in his life. After the growth came along nicely, a homepage was added by Liese Uptegrove Ade (and a fine one it is -- visit it if you have not already, at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~original13/ ) It now is a healthy, mid-sized list of about 300 members. I leave the list administration with Kathleen, but not because of problems or discontentedness... Doubtless, Kathleen will soon introduce herself to you folks. My best to you, Vince Summers

I now find myself in the situation of inviting someone else to take over this list. It cannot be merely the one with the most interest in the subjects. It cannot merely be the one most capable as a list manager. It must be someone with talents somewhere in-between. I am not the most knowledgeable nor the most talented on this list. There are others much more knowledgeable. There are others much more talented. Please let me know if you are interested in taking charge of this list. I promise nothing to anyone. Yet, I expect I will turn it over to someone who is currently subscribed. I will notify the list, certainly, of my final choice... Yours, Vince Summers List Admin
