Surnames: Mills, Spring, Shum, Davis Hallona A. "Peggy" Mills, 80, a resident of Lyle (Washington), died Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at a local care facility. She was born August 24, 1921 in South Dakota to John and Grace (Spring) Shum and came to the Northwest in 1935. She worked in the fruit packing industry in Hood River (Oregon) for a number of years prior to her marriage to Raymond J. Mills in White Salmon (Washington) on June 20, 1948. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening and caring for her family in addition to crocheting, traveling to visit family, and reading. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in White Salmon. Survivors include her husband Ray, of the family home in Lyle; sons, Terry and Gary, also of Lyle; her brothers, Hilding Shum, Mission, Texas and Dr. Lyle M. Shum, of Los Osos, California; a sister, Helene Davis, Rapid City, South Dakota and grandchildren, Chris and Kevin Mills, and a great-grandson, Riley Mills. The family will observe private services of remembrance in accordance with her wishes. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial (The Dalles, Oregon).
