Surnames: Gannon, Williams, Byrd, Rosa, Haynes James "Butch" Leland Gannon, 61, a resident of Mosier (Oregon), died at his winter home in Yuma, Arizona, of a heart attack, on Friday, March 21, 2003. He was born February 5, 1942, in Fresno, California, the oldest of three children to James Olin and Audrey Lea (Williams) Gannon. He moved to The Dalles in 1948, and was a member of The Dalles High School Class of 1960. He served in the U.S. Army then returned to The Dalles, married Libby Haynes and they had three sons. On January 29, 1983, he married Colleen Byrd in Palm Springs, California. He owned and operated Butch's Exxon Service Station on West 6th Street until selling it in 1978. Currently, he and his wife were farming their cherry orchard in Mosier and he helped her with Hickory Farms' Pacific Northwest operations. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, spending time at his cabin and the new home in Yuma, and helping with friends. He is survived by his wife, Anita Gannon, Mosier; his sons, Jamie Gannon, Portland; Jeff and B.J. Gannon, The Dalles; grandchildren, James, Brittany, David and Abby; his mother, Audrey Gannon, The Dalles; his sister, Glenda and her husband, Len Rosa, The Dalles; mother-in-law, Mildred Byrd, Mosier; and in-laws, Greg and Tanya Byrd, Mosier; and Doug and Joy Byrd, Florence (Oregon). He was preceded in death by his father, James, in 1969 and his sister, Sandra, in 2001. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at The Dalles Gateway Presbyterian Church with Fritz Stranz officiating. Private cremation will be held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. The Dalles Chronicle March 26, 2003.
